Allison Wells · What Allison Wrote with Allison Wells

Can I tell you something about me?

I read everywhere.

In bed before sleep, in the carpool line, on the couch with the TV on in the background, in any lull of more than five minutes. There is almost always a book in my hand. This is why I’m such an eBook fan. They literally go everywhere with me.

And honestly? I’m not sorry about it. There’s no shame in my reading game.

Here’s the thing about being a reader who is also a writer…reading never really feels like a break. It’s research, it’s study, it’s me noticing how an author built a character so real I forgot I was reading fiction. I am always taking notes in my head.

But it’s also just… Joy. Pure, uncomplicated joy. The kind that doesn’t require anything from me except to show up and turn the page.

That’s the magic of a really good book, isn’t it? The right story at the right time doesn’t just entertain you. It changes something. It gives you language for a feeling, or just the deep exhale of knowing someone else has felt exactly what you’re feeling.

That’s what I want to write, too — every single time I sit down to work on a story, that’s what I’m reaching for.

So thank you for being here and sharing this little corner of my reading life with me.

Now go pick up a book. I’ll be doing the same — probably in several different locations before the day is out.

With love, Allison

P.S. — What’s a book that has stayed with you long after you finished it? Reply and tell me. I genuinely want to know.
