By the time you read this Trump will have announced his conclusions on what causes autism and what to do about it. Whatever he says, know he is wrong.
Only one thing can cause autism, and that is sex.
At risk of stating the obvious, when we conceive a child a mixture of hereditary genetics from both biological parents ends up in a mixing bowl, gets all stirred up/ shaken/well blended, and a combination of genetics from both parents become the recipe for said child.
This is what determines our eye colour, height, temperament, and so much more… including neurotype.
There is no bloodtest, scan or any other definitive assessment for neurotypes, which is why we identify them through interview, questionnaire and self identification. Furthermore there has never, ever been a definitive scientific diagnostic tool for autism. So why is it’s validity the hot topic of debate right now??
Because we know about it. More of us identify.
And the more of us that identify, the bigger threat we are to the systems that attempt to shackle us to the constraints of neuro-normativity.
The reality is that our collective clarity around autism brings us closer to true inclusivity and the fact that our inherent genetics are being denied is a sign of our potential.
