The heading of this article is true for a lot of life, I gotta say, but this article is a delve into why I am SO BORED with autism.
I mean I can’t be sure and I may be confusing bored here with overexposed? No longer dopamine delivering? A sense of impatience maybe? Is it a me thing? Is ten years as an online educator and advocate the lifespan of a standard season? Maybe it’s time for me to exit stage left?
I actually did try that last year.
I announced my retirement from autism content a year ago. I unfollowed every autism related content creator I knew so that the algorhythm would get the picture that I was no longer interested.
I was bored. I was SO BORED with what I can only describe as autism 101.
And i get it, 101 is arguably the most important level as it’s the foundation stone. Autistic people typically take a looooong time to get to stage 1 because we don’t believe we’re autistic (only adhd and empathic with a couple of autistic kids). And so we need the foundation stone to be strong before we build on it.
That is to say, most autistic folk need to REALLY understand the basics of autism before they realise they’re autistic.
Autism 101 is what is giving people identity and clarity around their brain.
It’s important and exciting.
But it’s so episode 2, and I want to be having post series conversations with those who’ve watched the whole thing and are expanding upon the twist that took place in the final ep and everything that led up to that point that they may have missed along the way and how the ending blew their mind and expanded their consciousness.
How so very autistic of me.
Boredom is one word, but arbitrary and non-nuanced are details worth mentioning here.
