Allie Samberts · Allie's Coffee Break

I just sent off my children to their last day of kindergarten and fifth grade, respectively. I’m definitely not old enough to be sending off a kid into middle school, so I’m going to pretend like that’s not happening. And I have a lot of thoughts about how far we’ve come as a family (and how far I’ve come) since she was a remote kindergartener during COVID. BUT, I’m not in the mood to unpack any of that, so avoidance it is! And celebrations!

One more week of school for me, and then Maycember is (almost) over, which means…

RELEASE WEEK IS COMING!

But first…

My god, there are so many things going on, aren’t there? End-of-school celebrations, dance recitals, theater performances, graduations. Mother’s Day was shoved in there somewhere, too. All while it feels like the world is in chaos! So really, for today’s coffee break, all I have to say is a little prayer for all of you. May your coffee be strong and your calendar be accurate and updated. May you sleep well at night to give you energy to tackle the day ahead. And may your romance be steamy and your books be pretty.

As we discussed above, I’m avoiding thoughts today. My therapist would not approve of this, but this isn’t therapy! This is my newsletter, so I do what I want.

And what I really want to tell you is that you can request the Not a Strong Enough Word audiobook on NetGalley! That’s right—advance listener copies are out in the world for this gorgeous audiobook. I don’t usually listen to my own audiobooks (it’s super weird, okay?) but I did download this one for a few reasons. First…it’s my first trad book, baby! And second, it’s been a minute since I’ve hung out with Scarlett and Ryan so since I’ll be around and talking about them a lot, I figured it might be a good way to get reacquainted.

Y’all…this audiobook is SO GOOD. Macie Miller is a perfect Scarlett—just enough sarcasm mixed with the right amount of lingering self-doubt. Alastair Haynesbridge is freaking fantastic as Ryan. He plays down bad perfectly.

So go! Request an ALC of Not a Strong Enough Word on NetGalley! (Or preorder it!) Have Ryan telling Scarlett he’s leaving his glasses on in your earbuds. You won’t regret it.

Come Meet Allie on Tour!

I need a nanny, but I may need her more.

I know about my reputation as Never Harbor’s secluded single dad. But I have everything I need: my imaginative son, my dog, and our remodeled cottage by the sea.

That is, until my nanny quits.

My brother’s ex-fiancee, Wendy Darling, is an elementary school teacher with a free summer. The last thing I need is to get tangled in his mess, but my family thinks she’s a perfect fit for the job. Turns out, she fits in better than I could have imagined.

Wendy is nothing like I expected. She’s kind and adventurous, with a beautiful laugh that washes my worst nightmares away. She pushes past my silence and sees more of my true self than anyone has in years. And my six-year-old son is falling for her just as quickly.

Being with Wendy can never happen. Not when my younger brother is her ex-fiance. Not when she’s so close to our family. Not when our small coastal town gossips the way that it does.

But after so long in the dark, Wendy makes me feel something. Falling for her feels a lot like flying instead.

I know happy endings only belong in fairy tales, but I’m close to stealing one for myself.

OFF THE HOOK is a grumpy-sunshine, single dad romance with lots of slow burn spice! This is book one in Never Harbor, a series of interconnected stand-alone contemporary romances inspired by Peter Pan.

May your coffee be perfect and you make it through the end of this month with at least a little energy (and reading time) in tact! I hope your next read is five stars, and if you download that ALC, let me know what you think!
