Here’s the thing nobody says out loud about arguing online.

You’re not really arguing with the person in front of you. You’re arguing for the audience that isn’t in the room, the invisible crowd you imagine watching, keeping score, waiting to see if you’ll back down. And once you’ve staked your position out in front of all those eyes, you can’t step back, because stepping back doesn’t feel like peace anymore, it feels like losing in public.

So every disagreement turns into a war with no exit. And the people who pay for it aren’t the strangers online. They’re the ones you love.

I know too many men who can’t have a calm conversation with their own family anymore. Siblings who haven’t spoken in years. Holidays that went quiet. Whole tables full of people tiptoeing around each other, not because anybody stopped caring, but because nobody ever found a third setting between performing and disappearing.
