My first job out of college was an investment banking position. To give you a sense of how different it was back then, I had just gotten rid of my electric typewriter 12 months prior.

I can remember staying up into all hours of the night, pulling numbers and compiling presentations for senior execs. Yet decades later, all those grueling hours and so much manual work is still required of financial analysts today.

It’s only now, through one of our AI portfolio companies Rogo (who raised a $50M Series B led by Thrive Capital this past quarter), that real change is finally underway.

Founded by Gabriel Stengel, a former Lazard investment banker who lived the problem himself, Rogo is adding an entire intelligence layer to the financial analyst position. And the major players have all taken notice, with firms like JP Morgan, Lazard, Moelis & Co, Tiger Global, and more all working with Rogo.

It’s a perfect example of where AI and LLMs change the game. Not just in the automation of boring tasks and presentations, but in the aggregation of incredible swaths of data and meaningful throughput.

Rogo’s AI tools are able to handle all kinds of what-if scenarios and simulations, at a speed that would have been unimaginable just a few years ago. Prompts like: “What would happen to my portfolio if inflation went up by 50 basis points?”

It’s these types of AI systems — ones that don’t just make us faster, but more intelligent — that get us most excited at AlleyCorp.

Later this week, I’ll be hosting a conversation with New York City Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani. After seeing the results of many public and privately commissioned polls the last several weeks, it’s very possible he becomes our next mayor.

It’s safe to say in my 40 years as a New Yorker, we’ve never seen a more polarizing candidate with a real shot at winning the general election.

While Mamdani continues to do well in the polls, I still have many questions about his policies and lack of operating experience — which is why I chose to host this meeting with him, along with Tech:NYC and The Partnership for New York City. It’s something we’ve also done in the past with Mayor Eric Adams, mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo, and other politicians throughout New York.

With 200+ founders, CEOs, and investors across VC and tech in the room, I want to make sure Mamdani understands the value that our tech community brings to NYC, and at the same time, give our founders the opportunity to ask him important questions about how he might run the city.
