Along with my editing training, I hold a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management. My unique education combination and experience provide me with skills in writing, research, critical thinking, communication, management, decision-making, and more.
I am a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association, where I am always learning and keeping up to date with the publishing industry. In addition, I successfully completed the vetting process and became a member of the Black Editors and Proofreaders network of editors.
In your experience, what qualities make a professional editor versus a beta-reader or critique partner or proofreader?
A professional editor has undergone training and is committed to staying up to date with the industry. Professional editors are knowledgeable about the publishing industry.
Why do you like working with indie authors and what has been your most rewarding project till date?
I enjoy helping indie authors create captivating books that keep readers engaged and turning the page for more! My most rewarding project was with a client who had hired a low-cost editor originally. Unfortunately, the editor wasn't informed and didn't correctly edit the client's work. My client was nervous about hiring another editor, but he did his research this time before hiring me. We had a great time collaborating, and he ended up speaking all over the country about his book. It was a wonderful experience!
What is your editing process?
I provide developmental editing, which is editing for the overall view of your novel. This includes a 10+ manuscript evaluation and in-line comments, and additionally will sometimes include rearranging, etc. I also offer a manuscript evaluation service alone and a copy and line editing package. With the copy and line editing package, I include a free revision. This means when you receive the edited document back from me and make changes, I will edit it again. I offer payment plans for all of my services and encourage open communication throughout through discovery calls, post-editing calls, and emails.
What are your interests and hobbies outside editing?
Of course I enjoy reading! I also like to take walks and travel with my family to different countries.
