Initiate yourself into the world of magical things
Do not wait to be invited
into the center, be among
the circle and feel the power
of witness and participation
without needing to be the lead.
Let the sparrow have her say,
the elephant and the otter,
the blue whale will take its time,
be patient while the aspens
get their thoughts together.
Be present as the scribe,
the pattern-maker, the poet,
the artist, the seer,
and the song.

Taurus Sun

Give me a cave,
a hole in the ground,
a stand of trees.
Become a stream running through
me,  I will be the bedrocks
and the branches.

Cowboys
You remind me of the best parts of my
father or perhaps you are a handheld
mirror to my own rugged, gambler heart.
I dream of horses lately, gray
with mournful eyes and soft hair.
I am so often men in my dreams.
My hands, large and capable,
I am my grandfathers;
the rancher, the fiddler,
the minister, the horse-whisperer.
Never the women
with their tight lips
and lace collars. Only the men,
with their leather saddles
and tobacco pouches.
I live out this life with cowboys in my veins,
cowboys in my dreams.
