NEW SHORT FICTION RECOMMENDATIONS:

BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • Speaking of Murakami, I’m currently reading his book What I Talk About When I Talk About Running. It’s a memoir meets training log and travelogue. I love Murakami’s writing, and while I’m not finished with it yet, one detail I’ve learned is that running is what inspired him to become a writer.

  • Earlier this month I finished All Fours by Miranda July and I loved it. I know everybody has already recommended it — but for good reason. I don’t want to say too much, but I highly recommend it to all 30+ readers.

  • Inspired by the NYT list of the 100 Best Books of the 21st Century, I read two books I had on my selves for a while, and in this case, they were right. They’re both excellent:

    • Stay True, by Hua Hsu. I’m listening to this memoir on the Libby app, and it’s a quick, lovely, moving audiobook read by the author.

    • The Days of Abandonment, by Elena Ferrante. I adore her writing and the NYT list inspired me to finally read this. It’s profoundly intimate and beautifully written.

ONLINE READING RECOMMENDATIONS:

  • The WGA has an excellent new(ish) blog with genuinely helpful posts, like this one on the elusive art of pitching: Keys to Pitching Success
