The Bag that Haunts Me

Once you hit a certain level as a creator with ShopMy, there is a lot of gifting from brands. Some are brands you feature all the time so it’s easy to create more content. Some are brands you have never before featured and they often become favorites.

And one of these brands that came onto my radar with gifting is HYER GOODS.

I had seen HYER GOODS bags on sites like Nordstrom and Shopbop, but never in person and I never did any research on the company. Then the company offered me this bag in gold through the ShopMy gifting and now I am completely obsessed.

This bag is niiiice. It’s this delicate yet durable leather that reminds me of my vintage Balenciaga city bag. That’s because the bag is made from surplus leather, the same that Balenciaga uses.

HYER GOODS founder Dana Cohen saw how much was created and then unused in corporate fashion and decided to make a company that didn’t create more but worked with what was already out there. HYER GOODS makes small batch leather handbags in using premium deadstock materials left over from luxury fashion houses and the same family-owned factories and tanneries in Italy used by the luxury brands.

The designs are cool, but also practical and timeless and well constructed so they not only reduce waste in creation but waste in needing to be replaced. And the chat feature on ShopMy? I’m communicating directly with Dana, a fellow working mom. Not some recent college grad hired to manage 500 brands or an intern. The founder herself. I am in love.

Dude, even The Good Trade is in love. And if you ever reference The Good Trade for reviews on ethical and sustainable brands you know they’re picky AF.

But I do not live a life where a shiny gold leather handbag is a regularly-needed accessory. It is still in its dust bag, waiting for a proper occasion. I have linked to it in blog posts like this one styling a swing dress multiple ways, I’ve shared it in Weekend Reads, on Facebook (and there I had to ban someone who kept commenting over and over saying the bag was overpriced, I was obsessed with consumerism, and here was an Amazon option for less than $20 yadda yadda).

As the bag does not collect dust due to the dust bag it came in but mocks me and my relatively basic bitch life from its perch in my closet, I stalk The Ring Bag from HYER GOODS. It’s a crossbody, it’s a shoulderbag, it’s a handbag. The leather is gorgeous, the hardware cool, no stupid details or big logos, just luxurious leather and a smart shape.

You can even buy a separate chain and turn it into a chain strap purse. I bet you can get creative with scarves and paracord and make all kinds of straps for this bag to keep changing up the look year after year.

I think I want the black with gold, but I also like the black with silver as I wear silver all the time, but the chocolate is also oh so good and that dark cherry red is badass. The olive and the off-white are so pretty but I know not right for my wardrobe.

The bag is not ridiculously priced (under $500) but your girl does NOT need another bag at this time. But each time a HYER GOODS email comes in my inbox, I go to the website and admire The Ring Bag.

Can you tell one of those emails just dropped in my inbox? I was hoping/fearing it was a sale alert but it’s a small business and already has reasonable prices, I don’t expect it to have a MDW promotion (and my wallet is grateful for the lack of an additional nudge).
