June 6: Week in Review

Weekend Reads is up on Wardrobe Oxygen. New music, the book I finished, the movie I watched and enjoyed, some good sales, some style inspo, women’s art, and the most interesting articles I read this week.

Also this week, I finished my big annual summer wedding guest dresses guide. Over 125 dresses in all in all sizes, all dress codes, and even suggestions for those who do not wish to wear a dress. Even mothers of the married, I got you!

This week was one of the kinds where I had to look at the calendar to remember what actually happened. Parenting rising high school seniors is not for the weak, plus yesterday was our 22nd wedding anniversary, and I just consistently felt behind in work.

Tuesday I was uber chic at the grocery store in my stained Lands’ End wide leg jeans and my NPR baseball tee. Though, TBH the t-shirt is pretty badass. The glasses are new from Eyebobs (code ALISON20 gets you 20% off at Eyebobs).

Here’s a better picture of the glasses. I got my eyes rechecked last month, got new sunglasses and new glasses. The glasses were gifted from Eyebobs, but this isn’t my first Eyebobs glasses. I am a fan; they’re quirky but well made and can get prescriptions, even progressive prescriptions, done well.

Thursday, my kid had training to be an election judge. It was a 40 minute drive there in rush hour and the training was only two hours long. I decided to take myself to dinner nearby and sit in a booth for one and play on my phone. I didn’t take my outfit photo, but I really liked what I was wearing so I made a flatlay. Shirt is XL (amazing quality and boob friendly), pants are LP (petite seems no longer available?), necklace is the 17-19” length, and Birks, because of course…

I half-tucked the shirt, popped the collar, and cuffed the sleeves. The lipcolor is “Kitten Heel” though I accidentally put “Framboise” in my bag so I switched to that after dinner and liked that too. The necklace and earrings with the lipcolor elevated it, IMO. It was comfortable in the heat, relaxed, but not boring. And yes, that is the bag that has haunted me! HYER GOODS was kind enough to send it after seeing my piece. I chose the chocolate brown and it is so decadent gorgeous and soft and smells amaaaaazing. I wore it as a crossbody it curves around the body I wish other bags did (hello Quince, The Sak, BAGGU…). The sunglasses are prescription.

Yesterday, K and I went to Minetta Tavern for a late lunch to celebrate our anniversary and we dressed up a bit. I got this Hemant & Nandita dress at the Rent the Runway sample sale and hadn’t yet worn it. I paired it with Lele Sadoughi “Wilma” earrings, my COS tote, and extremely old sandals from Bella Vita.

We love going to buzzy restaurants at odd times; you can get a good table, good service, and it’s quiet and lovely. We’re not driving in rush hour traffic, and we can go to bed at a reasonable hour. In fact, we got super wild and crazy and that evening watched “Spring” and “Summer” of the second season of The Four Seasons. We both hate this show, we can’t figure why we keep watching it, but we do. The vacation locales, seriously, are what make the show. It’s so bad, I don’t even love Coleman Domingo (though I do adore Claude, played by Marco Calvani).

This morning I had to drop the kid off to take the SATs. She got there and realized she forgot her ChromeBook. So we had to go home and get it and race back. She was freaking out thinking she’d be too late and not let in but we made it. She forgot her phone and water in the car, there were tears and hyperventilating, but my fingers are crossed that arriving on time helped her calm down and focus. I was driving back trying not to speed, yelling, “box breathe! Breathe out your nose! Get your head in the game!” I’m telling you, parenting kids this age is not for the weak!
