Ewa Juszkiewicz on Cultural Visibility?

Fellow Empresses, how are we holding up? Has August begun to feel less like summer and more like a hostage situation? Are you ready for that first crisp inhale of autumn air to breathe a little magic back into your life—and perhaps justify a new pair of serotonin shoes, purchased strictly for neurological reasons?

This weekend I am soft hermitting with Stirling Point. It’s such candy. When I’m not chuckling at the glorious YA tropes, I’ve been cackling out loud at Beth Lisogorsky’s new book, So this is Happening, and remembering how much I love collaborating with writers. I may be allergic to the operations and logistics of publishing, but this part, I can still do. And check out the amazing video that fellow author Francesca Bossert made for her cover reveal. So much love for this group.

I’ve been thinking this past week about what a herculean effort it is to get a book out the door at scale. So many people have helped get Heather J Robertson’s book, Are You There God? It’s Me, Menopause off the ground—Kimberly Warner, Dave McLaughlin, Jem, Rowie, Emma Moylan, Suzanne Gilberg at Monarch, Menopause Rocks, Kate Auletta, editor-in-chief of Scary Mommy, the entire team at plusONE, Hilton, and Midlife Upgrade™ (what would we do without you?)—not to mention our amazing booksellers: Tessa with The Zibby Team and Zibby’s Bookshop, Elyse Chambers at Wild Plum, and everyone at Cambridge’s own Lovestruck Books & Cafe.

After many late nights… Ticketing for Heather’s tour is finally live nationwide. FYI, this is not your average literary gathering. At ordinary literary gatherings, you have to sit still, behave, and wait politely to ask an intelligent question. At this one, you can arrive with your friends, your problems, your gripes, your exhaustion—and absolutely no intention of behaving. It’s a night off. A night out. And a chance to laugh with your best friends who just got on stage.

Even better: the first 100 friends who book together in each city can grab our BOGO offer—two tickets for the price of one. Just like the shoe deal, only with fewer blisters and way better SWAG.

Ghaaagh! She looks so serious. No worries. We’ll change that!

We couldn’t be more excited about the featured guests and comedians joining us on tour—including the hilarious Alyce Chan, Kristen Toomey, and Bethany Van Delft, plus special guest Kate Auletta, Editor-in-Chief of Scary Mommy, Meghan Rabbitt of Maria Shriver’s Sunday Paper, and Elyse Chambers of Wild Plum Books.

Together, they’re helping us turn a book tour into something much better: a night of comedy, conversation, storytelling, and collective exhaling.

More comedians & guests TBA!

Don’t wait. Grab your VIP tickets at menopause.live or purchase directly through the Eventbrite links above. We can’t wait to laugh with you!

We’ve done the math: unless a book achieves significant volume (10k units), authors—especially debut authors—almost always come up short, both economically and culturally. This live-event series is our attempt to change that equation by building an ecosystem in which the author, bookseller, publisher, and partners work together to create not only a better reader experience, but a richer book-club and community experience—one capable of giving new voices genuine cultural visibility and socioeconomic power. We are deeply grateful to every partner, and to our author, for enabling us to see what becomes possible when we stop waiting for traditional pathways to make room. All of our authors deserve this magic.

Question for the comments: What kind of magic do you need right now?

Here’s some magic… if audiobooks are your lifeblood, Imogen Vane’s new romance is now out on audio and available everywhere! It’s Harry Potter meets menopause in Nyra’s cozy London apothecary, until she is drawn back into a dark magical spy ring bent on stopping the patriarchy from taking over the world. Publishers Weekly hailed it as a “Grounded emotional debut.” Download it today just about anywhere.

Many more announcements to come. For now, enjoy the rest of your Sunday. Tomorrow I’ll be back at the cauldron with our bookkeepers, insurance people, and whichever oracle of the Commonwealth must be consulted, doing all the practical magic needed to keep a small press afloat.

But we can’t leave you without an official tour anthem, so here’s KiKi Dee in all her midlife glory and power:

Yours in Grandeur & Deep Sh*t,

p.s. If you are so inclined, follow us on IG for flash content & upcoming giveaways. We’re at @the.empress.age and we’d love to see you there!
