Trumbash

Martial Melee Weapon

Damage: 1d6 Slashing

Properties: Thrown (20/60), Special

Weight: 3 lb.

Cost: 25 gp

Special: Once per short rest, after missing with a ranged attack, the wielder may force a creature within 5 feet of the original target to make a Dexterity saving throw or suffer 1d4 slashing damage from the weapon’s unpredictable flight.

Several classes can make effective use of the Trumbash. Fighters, particularly Battle Masters, can combine tactical maneuvers with ranged attacks to represent trained warriors skilled in specialized weaponry. Rangers fit naturally because many historical African warriors balanced hunting and warfare. Rogues can exploit the weapon’s unusual appearance and mobility, while Kensei Monks provide an excellent framework for characters who have mastered uncommon martial traditions.

For Black-inspired fantasy campaigns, the weapon also works well in the hands of custom warrior, hunter, scout, and guardian archetypes that draw upon African military traditions.

A village may seek heroes capable of recovering a legendary throwing knife stolen during a colonial invasion generations earlier. Rival warrior societies may compete to claim a newly discovered cache of ancestral weapons hidden within ancient ruins.

A master smith could request rare meteoric iron needed to complete a ceremonial Trumbash intended for a future ruler. Secret societies may use distinctive blade designs to identify members, creating intrigue and mystery for player characters to investigate.
