A last-minute European beach trip, shopping my closet, and finding vacation energy both abroad and at home.

I’m kind of laughing at myself as I type this because in my last newsletter send I was just talking about how we didn’t have any (bigger) trips on the calendar this summer, and how I was genuinely looking forward to the slower pace—just enjoying our backyard, swimming and spending time with friends and family. This is officially going to be my summer of channeling vacation energy at home now that our pool and home / backyard projects are finally complete. Time to finally enjoy it!

Fast forward a couple of days... and I was cleaning out my inbox when I realized I had completely missed an invite that, honestly, I couldn’t pass up. I emailed the brand back immediately and they were somehow able to squeeze me in last minute.

Nothing like a spontaneous European beach trip to kick off summer... I leave in two days.

This also reminds me of the time my girlfriend asked me to meet her in Paris with just a week’s notice. When the stars align and that spontaneity works out, it truly makes for the best trips. I’m a planner and like to research where I’m going, what restaurants I want to try, and basically everything beforehand but sometimes it feels good to just wing it.

So take what you will from this! I hope it inspires you to book the last-minute trip as it comes up—which is very much how I’m planning to roll with things this summer. Or, on the flip side, to enjoy the perks of slower summer days spent at home and soaking up your own city.

I want to spend more time in wine country this summer, revisit some of our favorite local spots, and say yes to whatever sparks all the joy.

Northern California is so special. I’m constantly telling my husband that, honestly, I’m perfectly happy staying local over taking a big trip (although I do love to travel!!). I feel completely spoiled by everything we have within a couple hours of us. And with kids, there's something so nice about the ease of a little road trip.

Wearing: Top. Beaded Necklace* (code: ALICIA15). Wrap Skirt.

OKAY, but now what to pack / wear for a European beach trip?!

I am shopping my closet for this last-minute one, as there is literally no time to order anything. But why is it that whenever a trip or event like this pops up (especially when I’ll be going to multiple brand dinners), panic immediately sets in and I convince myself I have absolutely nothing to wear?

On the other hand, I also realize how ridiculous that sounds because I know we all have closets full of beautiful things.

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around a few looks and edit down what I’m packing, so I thought I’d share a few pieces as a start. It always helps me to think about the main events / dinners first. I usually toss the dresses and pieces I’m considering onto my bed, start trying things on, and edit from there. If I can, rewearing the shoes for multiple occasions is the key to packing as light as possible for me.

A few pieces I’m planning to pack / restyle and continue to wear all summer long…

Beaded Tassel Necklace

Jewelry is always one of my favorite ways to restyle a look and make it feel fresh again. I’m especially loving this beaded tassel necklace (I have it in both the onyx and quartz) and how it instantly dresses up everything.

I also love styling it with the tassel hanging down the back—especially with open-back dresses and tops.

The collection, Deux Amis, is designed in New York using natural stones and recently launched exclusively on At Present. It has quickly become a favorite of mine and I have a feeling many of you will love it too.

And if you’re shopping, I have a code for At Present: ALICIA15.

Statement Earrings

I’ve also been very into a statement earring which also can transform any look / make a dress or jacket feel new again. I’ve been getting a lot of wear out of my Sophie Buhai earrings (another cool pair that is currently on sale ~ and an extra 10% off with code: FLASH10)

Linen / Cotton Pants

Any lightweight breezy linen, cotton or poplin pant that can take you from breakfast to the beach. Another good classic linen pant / linen shorts (longer style) I own and live in. Perfect for around the house or getting you to and from the pool.

These have that sweet carefree feel (nothing says summer like Dôen). This entire collection would be perfect for any European trips... and summer at home in general.

Silk Wrap Skirt

I’m craving unexpected color combinations and summer brights (another colorful skirt I’m loving, this color / skirt too).

Another wrap skirt and this one too are catching my eye from Mango. Loving the color and interesting layered look. They’re giving me a Dries feel.

Linen / Cotton Dresses

Lightweight summer linen dresses are an essential. I have a couple more classic staples I wear on repeat in the summer that are always no brainers when packing for warmer weather (like this one and this skirt too). These roll up easily and take up very little room when packing as well.

Another silhouette / cotton dress I’ve had on my mind for chic summer evenings and events (a splurge, but I’m obsessed with the peach color!).

Slip Dress

I’m also packing my Chloé slip dress for one of the nights (was one of my absolute favorite buys last year ~ a couple sizes left here and an extra 10% off with code: FLASH10).

Black Swimsuit

I know, I know... I’ve mentioned this one for years now, but it’s truly the swimsuit that comes with me on every trip and has been my most-worn suit for multiple summers now.

I would 100% buy it again. I also love a strapless suit for the zero tan lines. If I could only own one swimsuit, this would be my holy-grail pick.

If you’re craving more of a print, this one is so pretty!

And J.Crew makes my favorite save options when it comes to swimsuits. And this is a great one / brand too. Just a little more cheeky, fyi!

In My Carry-On / Toiletry Bag…

Electrolyte Mix

This has quickly become my favorite electrolyte mix. I love the Salted Coconut flavor, but it comes in a bunch of different options (zero sugar).

I always travel with electrolytes now and, honestly, take them almost daily—especially on hotter days and after sweatier workouts. This is 40 ;P ... hydration has become non-negotiable. I also have a code: ALICIA10

Face & Body Sunscreen

I’ve shared these, but Good Weather sunscreen has quickly become a favorite of mine. They’re already packed in my bag for this trip (and will be all summer long).

Sakara Night Service

This is part of my nightly wind-down routine and something I always travel with. It’s a natural blend of ingredients (without melatonin) that helps me feel calm and relaxed in the evenings. My doctor is also a big fan of this blend.

I have it on a monthly subscription and you can use my code ALUND25 for any Sakara products or meals.

Okay I’ll report back once I’ve officially packed / decided what to wear!

xx
