Channeling Vacation Energy, At Home

I’ve been thinking about how much I love getting dressed on vacation — and how to channel that same energy at home… just on a normal Tuesday. Maybe it’s the end of the school year creeping up (crazy), finally being out of bed and getting dressed again after a week of being sick (ha!), Memorial Day weekend plans, or just slowly transitioning into summer mode through my kids… but I’ve been craving that lighter, more effortless feeling when getting dressed.

And for me, it really comes down to a few simple elements I’ve been gravitating towards.

Channeling Vacation Energy, At Home:

— Air-dried hair (honestly barely brushed :P — that effortless ease of going to dinner with wet hair). I actually went to dinner on Saturday night in a dress with wet hair from the pool and no makeup — something I would normally only do on vacation — and it instantly made me feel like it was summer.

— Barely-there makeup (I can’t get enough of bare skin with just this SPF. I think I’m craving seeing real skin and real 40-year-old faces? I’m very much in a phase of leaning into a natural look. If I want a little more coverage, this foundation layered on top as more of a concealer situation has been my go-to.

.— Throw-on-and-go knits (the sweater that inspired this post — such a good oversized one with just the right amount of slouch), and easy layers (I sized up one size and was excited when the French Blue went on sale — it is really good).

— Wider-leg pants (leaning into comfort in every way and these are on my wishlist)

One great black swimsuit to take your through summer (my Eres suits are still my all-time favorites for quality — another great sportier brand / one-piece for less)

Playful sandals (jellies and pops of color are speaking to me)

— Beaded bags as your everyday bag (I’ve been carrying this one as my daily purse and it instantly gives me that vacation-at-home feeling — cute mini version, also a good smaller size and very into this one)

— Craving bolder color pops lately — like these pants and this wild skirt that is currently in my cart

— Statement earrings + layered jewelry

A recent dinner out, in a knit set I love (skirt). So comfy too! (You can easily wear with a bra or if unbuttoning the knit lower, I wore these).

And these sandals are really proving to be the ideal shoe choice for any backyard / grassy / beach parties.

I pulled these sunglasses back out and have been reminded of how much I love them. I bought them this past fall in Paris and they instantly give me that summer energy. I love the lighter lens (you can easily walk into a coffee shop wearing them and not feel silly about forgetting to take them off indoors) — and the lighter frames are so pretty if you’re a blonde. I think it looks so good!
