For the Gardens Who Don’t Know Yet
There are women alive right now
who do not know they are gardens.
They are sitting in waiting rooms.
They are apologising to machines.
They are eating at strange hours.
They are crying at photographs of flowers
and not knowing why.
They are the daffodil before the daffodil knew.
They are the bluebell still asleep in the wrong soil.
They are the swan before the swan
unfolded its surviving feathers.
To them I say:
You are not broken.
You are pre-bloom.
You are not too much.
You are made for a world
that has not been built yet —
and you are the one
who will help build it.
Bless every garden
who does not yet recognise herself.
You are coming.
The garden recognises its own.
The full collection — 35 poems woven with self-portrait photography and paintings dreamed from my own image, between Swedish and English, between memoir and myth.
