I'm sorry

Decisions decisions. Do I go for a sad-looking YouTube thumbnail à la Jenna Marbles, David Dobrik, Colleen Ballinger, and all those who have come before us?

Or do I lean into the Notes App apology? No face. Just pouring my heart out through the written word in an Apple Note.

As you may have noticed. The outcome is that I’ve rebranded.

Frankly, and for those of you who did read my previous, short-lived blog, I loved the idea of The Sunday Reset, but it was just too formulaic, too clean-girl, and too hard for me to pretend that I do a weekly Sunday reset.

I love consuming those types of videos and podcasts, but the reality is that I don’t have enough to say on the matter, and so… I just stopped saying anything. I felt like I couldn’t write things that weren’t on theme, and then I got stressed about the fact that I promised something every week, and then, at Christmas, over our third bottle of wine, my mum revealed that this Substack just wasn’t really working because it didn’t have the heart of my old blog.

And like, yes, true, but even after so much wine, it was still a tough pill to swallow.

So, all of that happened, and THEN, the other thing I realised I hated in retrospect (disclaimer, I do realise that I’m on the wrong platform for this) is my articles going to people’s inboxes.

I know, I know! My steak is too juicy etcetc…

But honestly, there was just so much pressure in realising that everybody was getting a notification when I posted an article.

So, we’re rebranding, we’re not pushing emails out (for now), and we’re going to write without pressure. For pleasure. For fun.

For those of you who don’t know, my 9-5 is as a content manager for a tech company. I’ve been in that world for ~8 years now, and unsurprisingly, it’s getting less and less creative and more and more formulaic (thanks, AI).

I don’t write nearly as much at work anymore, instead becoming more of a content orchestrator/programmer/editor. Which is essentially briefing in articles and then making sure they don’t have too many em-dashes or contrastive emphasis.

Which is another reason I wanted to pick writing up again, because God forbid I forget how to do the only thing I’ve ever really been good at.

So, here I am. Welcome to ‘While we’re here…’ a little internet space that should feel like picking up with a friend over a glass of wine. There are NO guidelines, no set days, no set topics, and definitely no end-of-blog resets and recommendations (although if I love something, I promise to tell you).

You’ll see me when you see me! (It won’t be too long, I promise).
