Welcome to The Slowed Lines

As a writer, especially one in a creative field, starting a Substack has felt like a natural path to amble down for some time. Already, 14-year-old Tumblr me feels elevated and much, much cooler.

What has held my footing is knowing where my direction would lie within it. Working (passionately) within the fashion and beauty industries, my subject felt predestined, but I’ve wanted to create content that had foundations in something more than generic, fast fashion ravings and 20-step beauty routines to “fix” “problems” that were never really there in the first place.

Over the past few years, my style and consumption habits have gone through quite a transformation. This has largely come about through working with some amazing conscious brands and creatives that pushed me to reconsider my wardrobe and skincare drawer.

The Slowed Lines is a continuation of that learning journey, totally imperfect, but trying. I’ve realised there are many people, like me, working to make their shopping habits more conscious (but still fun!), who fear labelling themselves sustainable because they are sometimes tempted by the odd sale or purchase with brands that perhaps don’t have the most glistening eco-rep.

At the end of the day, we’re all doing our best, and TSL is an outlet to celebrate such, and of course, talk about ~the looks~ and goss xox

This Substack’s namesake has been chosen as a nod to a realistic slowing and refining, of both our shopping habits and life in general. As a a chronic planner, scheduler, acute Virgo etc, this is probably a cry for help from my inner psyche, but I digress. The undercurrent of words, pieces and products that feature on these pages will aim to follow a decelerated mantra.

Additionally, when you think of a line, the imagery itself is minimalist, clean and neat. This undeniably represents my aesthetic stylistically, and one I strive to form the core foundations of all TSL curations. I’ve married it all together quite poetically if I do say so myself. This is something that, as a writer, I should probably be striving for.

Since we are on page one, I’m excited to follow wherever the proverbial pen takes me. Rest assured though, foundationally this Substack will feature regular, realistically-conscious fashion and beauty musings and edits, minimalist in style and layout. Each will come with thoughtfully honest lines from yours truly. Hopefully, it feels like a slightly more refined, aesthetic WhatsApp message from the girls, direct to your inbox.
