Alice Hartwell · The Slowed Lines

I started a Second-Hand Edit over on my Instagram a few months ago, as an extension of my growing love for preowned browsing. Shopping this way was more than about the item itself - it was also the thrill of seeking out bargains and the knowledge that I was continuing a garment’s story. It was like the serotonin I used to get out of a fast fashion hauls but so much better, and way more sustained (no pun intended).

Now I’m choosing to bring it to Substack, in the form of fortnightly editions. I’ll be trawling the second-hand online marketplaces and resellers, so you don’t have to, and presenting a capsule of minimalist hidden gems that, who knows, might just find another life in your wardrobe. Here’s some of my favourite discoveries this week.

DIISH linen maxi skirt (via Depop) | Size 6 | £20

All the style girlies will tell you that a considered summer wardrobe deserves a linen skirt, and for this price (the same, or less, that you would be paying brand new with a fast fashion brand), who are we to argue?

VRG GRL knit dress (via Depop) | Size M | £45

Another Aussie brand you can shop more sustainably this season. This dress is giving holiday dinner where you want to get *the trip picture for the grid*.

TIBI sandals (via Curate & Rotate) | Size 4 | £90 *sale*

Few resellers do minimalism better than Curate & Rotate, and these sandals are guaranteed to go with everything, forever.

ANINE BING silk top + trouser set (via Depop) | size 10 | £150

This set would be a really nice alternative bridal outfit that you could 100% get wear out of time and again post-nuptials.

Réalisation Par tank top (via Depop) | Size M | £12 *sale*

Butter yellow is a big shade this summer, and a nice way to add a pop of colour to a neutral wardrobe (without feeling insane). This is also currently discounted to the cost of a H&M top, so I would run.

Vintage Ronit Zilkha bustier (via Retold Vintage) | Size XS | £140

If only my boobs would fit in this top, the power I would feel wearing it would be immense, I’m sure. It’s giving old money Italian Riviera and is the most unique vintage piece worth every penny of investment.

Vintage Bottega Veneta bag (via The Hosta) | £440 *sale*

Speaking of Italy, a vintage Bottega never went a miss either, especially one on sale. The Hosta is a haven for preloved designer bags, and this one would seamlessly blend with any daily wardrobe.

COS silk shirt (via The Coedit) | Size S/M | £35

I’m a lover of COS, but shopping the brand second-hand feels even better, for my pocket and the planet. This crinkled silk shirt would be heavenly on a heatwave day this season.

Miu Miu cat-eye sunglasses (via Sign Of The Times) | £125

SOT are ruling the second-hand designer market and boasts a huge catalogue of items you can shop at a discount, these sunnies being one of the more beautiful ones.
