Stock Market Update Thursday August 6, 2026 Wall Street Pulls Back After Record Run as Investors Lock in Profits U.S. equities retreated on Thursday, ending a powerful rally that had propelled the major benchmarks to fresh all-time highs. The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed more than 450 points, snapping a five-session winning streak, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite posted modest losses as investors engaged in profit-taking and reassessed the latest corporate earnings, macroeconomic developments, and geopolitical risks.

Away From Stocks: Oil: WTI crude advanced to approximately $78 per barrel, supported by reports of additional military strikes and renewed concerns after Iran reiterated demands for greater control over the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of potential supply disruptions.

The U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) strengthened, climbing back to just below the 100 level as investors rotated into the greenback, reversing part of its recent decline. Gold prices eased to around $4,300 per ounce as the firmer U.S. dollar weighed on the precious metal. The CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) continued to drift lower, settling near 15.35, signaling that investor sentiment remains relatively constructive despite Thursday’s equity pullback.
