The soul becomes dyed with the colour of its thoughts. - Marcus Aurelius
How often do we find ourself talking down our own ideas, dreams, and goals? "Nah, it's not that easy", "Maybe in another life", "If I had the time or the money..".
Guilty of these negative self-talk?
In this article, I share what I've learned about the whole hype over positive self-affirmation, and dive deeper into some practical tips to add colour to your palette (so you can dye your soul with beautiful thoughts) *pun intended.
Yes, I know, we live in times where positive self-talk and positive affirmation is starting to sounds a little too "woowoo".
Rest assured, this article is not going to ask you to describe the beautiful creation you see in front of the mirror. Although you could, if you so desire.
What's the magic about positive affirmation? Isn't it just words, to encourage, to motivate, and at best provide some form of reassurance?
There's perhaps more to that.
In Bruce Lee's wise words:
Don't speak negatively about yourself, even as a joke. Your body doesn't know the difference. Words are energy and cast spells, that's why it's called spelling - Bruce leeIndeed, words hold energy and cast spells.
In fact, the magic word "Abracadabra" translates to "I will create as I speak" in Hebrew.
I will create as I speak - I suppose there lies a deeper meaning to the magic word after all.
Creation of reality based on what we actually tell ourselves.
Wouldn't you agree then, that positive affirmations are like a little magic spell we cast on ourselves?
From the likes of Marcus Aurelius to Bruce Lee, there's no denying the profound impact that positive affirmation can have on our success.
Here are some practical ways to incorporate the practice of positive affirmation into your daily lives (I hope you find them helpful):
1) Switch out the Vocab:
2) Be Intentional:
Be deliberate and intentional about incorporating this practice
First thing in the morning, or
Sticky notes in visible places, or
Visualisation while commuting, or
Journaling (my preferred option)
3) Use this Formula:
To create affirmations that resonate with you, use this formula
[True] + [Present Tense] + [Empowering]
Example: I am committed [True] to becoming [Present Tense] the better version of myself [Empowering]
I wish you a success in embracing the magic of positive self-affirmation as a tool to transform your thoughts and, ultimately, your life.
