Hi friends,
The last few weeks have felt a little like musical wandering season.
I’ve been bouncing between Strawberry Music Festival and San Francisco, listening to music, playing music, seeing old friends, and soaking up some good vibes along the way. Strawberry always has a way of making me feel like I stepped into a little temporary world where music, campfires, and conversations become the whole schedule.
One of the highlights for me was Strawberry itself. I had some great jams out there. Truth be told, the campgrounds have always rocked for me even more than the main shows. There’s something about wandering around and hearing music coming from every direction.
I can still remember a bunch of camp jams from over the years. It used to be those sessions would sometimes go until dawn. Not quite as much anymore, but there’s still some magic in hearing people gathered passing songs around and seeing what happens next. Sometimes those end up being the moments I remember more than the scheduled performances.
Tomorrow I’m packing up and heading toward South Lake Tahoe for the next stop on the adventure. Oddly enough, this trip is mostly to relax from the relaxation of the last few weeks!
One thing I’ve been reminded of lately: sometimes the best music moments aren’t the polished ones. They’re the accidental jam sessions, hearing somebody play a song you forgot you loved, or stumbling across a musician and thinking, “Wait... how have I never heard this person before?”
A little update
During the week, if I get some time, I’ll be putting up some stories and pictures from some of the highlights of the last few weeks.
After Tahoe, I’ll be heading back into live gigs for the summer. I don’t think I’ll be doing internet shows for a while. I’ve enjoyed doing them, but right now I’m feeling pulled more toward live music, real rooms, real people, and all the unexpected things that happen when you’re playing in front of folks.
I’ll also be posting upcoming live shows right here on this page under Music Vault + My Live Music Schedule, which is pinned to the top of my Substack page, so if you’re wondering where I’ll be playing next, that’ll be the place to find me.
Outro
Thanks for following along with my little adventures, music detours, and occasional disappearing acts. I appreciate every one of you riding along.
See you down the road,
Alex Muddy Smith
