The right to be cool on my own way

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is finally over.

The city (Mexico City) is going back to normality. I don’t expect everyone to understand. But a Zocalo held hostage by FIFA and seeing everyone in football jerseys has really bored me, both as photographer and individual.

Finally, the disruption that consumed our minds and hearts is over, and perhaps we can return to thinking about life, about social struggles, about what is truly worth living and dedicating our energies to. OK, sarcasm and irony is part of me here, but…think about…

Having dedicated an entire article on fstoppers to the fact that I was unable to peacefully experience a World Cup that was shameful in so many ways, I also felt disgusted on a photographic level. Quite the opposite of what I made in the meantime: a lot of exciting photography, personal photography, the one made without thinking what the others do. Just me, my camera and getting out of the places where the football fans where. So I discovered several new spots. And I enjoyed the processo, the way to make street photography, going to photograph with a super bulky camera, the Canon 5D, most recently equipped with the pancake 40mm 2.8 that is absolutely fantastic and perfect for my way to photograph.

I am cool. I can see how my way to be present with my camera is just mine. Today I am an alternative street photographer because of my camera (that is not recommended for street photography) and exactly because of my camera my way to photograph is different. even more present and intentional than in the past.

I can see clearly where I am going as a photographer.
