Every year, Día de Muertos transforms Oaxaca into something difficult to describe unless you have experienced it.
The cemeteries at night. The families preparing the graves of their loved ones. The markets, the flowers, the candles, the music. The streets filled with people, traditions and rituals that are not simply a spectacle to photograph.
This is what has kept me coming back to Oaxaca for so many years.
And this is also why I created the Expedition.
I don’t want to take you to Oaxaca simply to photograph Día de Muertos from the outside. I want you to experience it, understand something about the culture behind the celebration, and photograph it with time, patience and respect.
From October 27 to November 3, I will be leading a small group through Oaxaca during one of the most extraordinary moments of the year.
We will photograph together, walk, explore, talk about photography, and spend time in places where Día de Muertos is lived rather than simply displayed for visitors.
This will be my 2026 Día de Muertos Expedition.
