The deeper audio version of this piece is available at the end of this article for paid subscribers. What follows is a written summary. Still full of the details. But if you want to go all the way in with me, you know where to find it.

After I published the piece on all the ways Hartley is so his design, I got some requests to do the same for my daughter, Sienna. Over the past few weeks I’ve been reflecting on the newborn phase, and really paying attention to her natural essence. She is so different from my son that it’s almost impossible to look at the two of them and not see their charts playing out in real-time.

Sienna is a 6/2 Ego Manifestor. She has touch cognition, alternating appetite, a markets environment, and a feeling tone beneath. She is almost two years old and she is, without question, the most untamable, joyous, heart-filled little being I have ever encountered.

Before I get into the layers of her chart, her birth story is actually really relevant to her design.

My first birth was one that got away from me. I felt pushed in a direction I didn’t choose, and by the time I was already in the system I didn’t feel like I had a say in the path I was going towards. I didn’t have the education around what it even meant to advocate for my own birthing experience. And while I’m grateful for how it went — because it gave me the strength and the courage to do things differently — it was something I carried with me into my second pregnancy.

When I got pregnant with Sienna just about five months postpartum, I was terrified. But I was also clear. I had the information this time. I had the hindsight. And so, against medical advice based on how things went the first go-around, I decided I was going to have a VBAC. No one was going to tell me otherwise. Of course there was room to pivot if it came to an emergency. I wasn’t so rigid that I would’ve ignored what my body or my baby needed. And there were pivots along the way. But I stayed connected to my heart. And she was born the way I had willed it. The way she had helped me will it.

When she arrived as an Ego Manifestor— not just a defined heart, but a heart-led being — I saw no coincidence in that. I had willed her birth from my heart, and she came into the world as a being who leads from hers.

Touch (& sleep)

The first thing I want to mention (and the reason I’m leading here, as I did with Hartley) is touch cognition. Because for kids, the variables are actually the most foundational entry points. The big Human Design characteristics (type, authority, profile) give us a useful container, but the body’s variables are where you can actually do something with the information.

What’s still completely, obviously touch about her: she loves being tucked in. I use the same cozy blanket I swaddled her in as a newborn, every single night. She has her bunny, whose ears she rubs and sometimes chews as she’s falling asleep. She rubs her feet together, her hands together, runs her palms across the surface of whatever she’s lying on. She is always finding a tactile anchor.

What was interesting with her compared to her brother though (where the Manifestor piece starts to show up) is something I noticed even in those first weeks. Her sleeping habits and needs were very different than his. I go deep on this in the audio.

Alternating Appetite

Sienna’s determination is Appetite (alternating), and I saw it from the very first days of breastfeeding.

What I noticed early that is SO classically alternating… is that she could only consume one thing at a time. If I was feeding her and someone walked into the room and started talking, she would unlatch, side-eye the person, and just… stop. She couldn’t process two streams of input at once. She needed the feeding to be the only thing happening.

Now at almost two, she is in a full applesauce pouch phase. Everything apple, all the time. And when she’s done with the pouch, she just chucks it. Because she’s spotted the next thing and her attention has fully shifted. All in on one thing, completely, and then all in on the next. There’s so much more to this when you look at how it plays out in her world of toys, her comforts, her little obsessions.

Markets

Her environment is markets, which means she thrives in spaces that have a certain warmth and aliveness to them. She needs something to see, something to take in, some life around her. I noticed this intuitively before I had the language for it. I never felt the pull to retreat with her the way I did with Hartley. She just seemed more settled when the world was right there around her.

The way this has started to show up as she gets older and more curious about the world around her… wild! She is markets to a tee.

Ego Manifester

If you’ve ever wondered what a defined heart in a toddler looks like in the wild, it is this. She has will. Not like Hartley’s mirror heart, which expresses itself with intensity but carries this sensitivity underneath. She has the settled, clear, directional will of someone who knows what they want and is simply going to do it. If we are walking one direction, she is going the other. She has her own plan and it happens to be opposite to ours.

When she is having an emotion and tells me to go away… and she does, very literally says “go away” when I enter her space during a hard moment. And then five minutes later walks over, takes my arm, and wraps it around herself. She needs me exactly when she decides she needs me. Not a moment before.

There is so much to say about the Projector-mom-Manifestor-child dynamic between us, and about the way people respond to her big feelings as a girl. That’s the piece I’m most protective over, actually. And it’s all inside the deeper analysis.

6/2 Profile

As a 6/2 myself, I hold this part of her chart particularly tenderly. I know this path. I’m on the roof now, but she is just at the very beginning. Right now, she’s living out the 3/2 in her first life phase. Which means she’s in the trial-and-error, figure-it-out-by-experience energy before her Saturn return eventually brings the 6 fully online.

What I see at the playground is everything. The 6/2 is the observer. She takes in the whole scene before she decides whether she wants to be in it. With new people, she is completely reserved. Side-eyes, hovers near me, has no interest in performing warmth she doesn’t feel yet. And I love that about her. I’m not going to push her onto that playground before she’s ready.

There’s a lot more I want to share about the 3 in her first life phase and what I’m already noticing. I see it as one of the most important things to understand if you’re raising a 6-line child.

What I keep coming back to as I watch her is how much of this is already just her. I haven’t shaped her into this. I’ve simply (tried my best) to stay out of the way of her becoming. No one told her to go away when she needs space or to come find me when she needs to be held. She just does it. She already has all the answers inside her.

She is the untamable one. She is the essence of a heart Manifestor. She will walk the other direction just to exert the will, and I am learning to build containers big enough for her to do that safely.

She is also the most joyous, peaceful, light-filled being I have ever been in the presence of. She has this quality of pure joy that I can only describe as a gift. And I feel it as my job to protect that. To keep the world from conditioning it out of her.
