If you have a desk job, it can be difficult to get moving. In fact, many people say that sitting is the new silent killer, but there are steps that you can take to improve your lifestyle.

One of the easiest is through a standing desk, but the desks themselves can cost hundreds of dollars. You simply don’t have the money, nor did I when I first looked at them.

That’s why I settled for a standing desk topper.

This was exactly what I needed at the time. I’ve since removed it for a few reasons, but not because it didn’t work or didn’t improve my health. It’s more that I now walk a lot more because of a side gig that I have.

The standing desk topper still allows you to pull it up and down, so you can choose when to sit and stand. While you won’t usually get the presets that you can with a full desk, moving the topper up and down is a little easier.

It got one that had one leave to the right side. I would grab it with my hand, and pull it up to the position that I wanted.

You have full control over when you put it up and down. I recommend starting with 10 minutes of standing and then sitting down as you build this up, especially if you’ve spent years seated at a desk.

It works for most sizes of desks, so you don’t need to worry about getting a new base for your work. In fact, one of the great things I found was that I got to keep most of my desk in the same setup that I previously had it.

The only thing that moved was the computer. All my notebooks and diaries could remain exactly as they were.

But do you really need a standing desk? Is this going to improve your health while you work?

If you don’t get moving a lot, then a standing desk is beneficial for your blood sugar levels, your muscle usage, and your posture.

There have been studies that show standing up while you work can reduce your blood pressure. Other studies have shown that there are improvements in reducing glucose issues if you are already impaired in that way.

There are also signs that it can help improve back pain. Sitting poorly can lead to problems with the neck and spine. This leads to hip and back issues, and you can end up with more tension headaches.

Sure, you can see a chiropractor, but isn’t getting a standing desk topper going to be cheaper?

For some, standing also helps to boost productivity. You end up being a little more alert when you’re standing. I found the movement helped me get a little more focused, as there was a slight break when pulling the topper up and putting it back down.

There are even exercises that you can do when you’re standing. I know people who march on the spot or do squats. This is going to depend on the type of work you do and your current abilities.

I loved my standing desk topper when I couldn’t get out of the house as much. It wasn’t the perfect way to improve my health, but it added some standing to help reduce tension issues and helped boost productivity.
