None of these really impact how we enjoy the space, we love love living here and wouldn’t change our decision to move (now it’s over, anyway!). But decorating regrets? We have a few…
The megaflo
Even the name sounds like a cartoon villain. When our builders first spoke of a water tank I distinctly remember my reaction:
But they assured me there were petite ones that could fit in the eaves of the loft and I slowly came round to the idea. A water tank would be preferable due to pressure and hot water demands with the loft conversion and, as time went by, talk of the small chic one dissipated and the Megaflo was presented as our only option. We had to make a decision and, as we were squeezing in a utility room to our plans (which wasn’t always the case), it made sense to bundle it all in the one room. The plans of the utility room were shared and it looked quite inoffensive:
Oh, it will sit in a cupboard next to the sink and be boxed away, I thought.
Turns out the boiler couldn’t go here as there wasn’t enough space for it to be housed against an external wall, so it moved to above the megaflow. Fine, I thought, we can box it all in behind a chic cabinet and no one will even know it was there.

I’ll welcome any ideas to box this in! It’s all you see when you walk into the room and protrudes much further than the sink, a cupboard will feel ever so cumbersome. A curtain perhaps?

The hilarious part is that I purposely chose a glass door to let all the gorgeous morning light into the hall but all you see as you pass by is a giant Megaflo. For some reason, we assumed they needed to be housed next to an external wall with the boiler but after some simple research (which I clearly didn’t do!) it turns out they can go anywhere - and we had a perfect spot behind the wall (where the washing machine/tumble dryer stack now live).
This is all hindsight, of course. My solution is to maybe put a long curtain in here and then linen cafe curtains over the glass door to still have the illusion of light without the eyesore glaring back at you. Do love having a Megaflo though.
