I began recording the present audio with the intention of rounding off my analysis of the second book of the Iliad but, as so often, the ramifications of the topic got away from me and the two hours recorded here turned out, in the end, to amount only to a preface to the close line-by-line analysis that I had intended.
I am posting at the same time, however, a set of “guidance notes” that outline, in its entirety, the matter that I had originally intended to present in this session. The notes will be useful for the comprehension of this recording and also of the next recording in the Homer series, as well as for that of the first recording in a series on Aeschylus’s Oresteia, a later Greek treatment of the same body of myth and legend, that I plan to begin before posting the next talk in the Homer series.
