Pieter Levels predicted the rise of the indie makers movement in 2015. But I failed to listen to him.

It took me 10 years to finally see that he was right back then.

So why the community is going to do x1,000?

7 reasons:

1/7
Mass layoffs. Thousands of programmers are getting unemployed.

Where do they go next? Indie making is a good option.

2/7
The population of India has tripled since 1960.

Their internal competition is bloody huge. There are just not enough jobs for every software engineer.

Solutions? Migration or becoming an indie maker.

People are moving around the globe more actively.

20 years ago a random John Doe from the US was sure that Indonesia looks like this. But today everybody know that Bali, Chiang Mai, Da Nang are great places to live and build products.

Go away from your US/EU town, cut costs by 3 times, build a venture. More and more people choose this way instead of making a career in MAANG.

In 1990 any men who wanted to live a good life had only one option — migrating to the US. In 2025 the US is not the only good place.
An average wealth and safety levels went up all over the world. Today, it is fine to stay in your hometown.

If you live in a non- 🇪🇺, 🇺🇸, 🇨🇦, 🇦🇺 country and make $1-2k/m doing indie making, you will be happy.

It is a cringe to spend hours in traffic jams, to not see trees, to breath shit air, to not see the Sun.

So more and more people escape from cities 😎

Here is the plan:

  1. buy a cheap house far from the city

  2. make cash by making SaaS

  3. make kids, plant trees, get a dog and chickens

  4. live 100 happy years

(I’m doing it this way btw)

6/7
Modern tech is a game changer.

TailwindCSS, Nextjs, Vercel, ReactJS, Supabase, boilerplates make it TIMES easier to create a SaaS today.

Can you imagine doing styles, deploy, database, auth manually? 😁 It is in the past forever.

…and AI makes it even EASIER.

Cursor AI, Bolt, Lovable bring more people in the game:

So what?

The conclusions:

  1. the market will grow. the people who laughed that you are selling a screenshot tool for indie makers will stop laughing. making $10k MRR by selling an $8 tool will be a real thing.

  2. the current leaders should be ready to adopt the new crowd. so guys @dannypostmaa, @marc_louvion, @johnrushx, @tibo_maker please don’t turn arrogant. support newcomers. let’s make the whole pie bigger together 🙏

  3. indie makers of other kinds will come into the game. barbers, lawyers, bakers, doctors will create niched products for their peers. they will need no-code tools.

  4. not only tools. we will also need new boilerplates, courses, books for new waves of indie makers. the current ones are made for geeks. we will need to adapt it by making them simpler and niched down.

  5. big corps will start using tools of indie makers massively. but we need to solve the security and trust issue first. the one who solves this puzzle will make billions.
