This article shows two of my favorite PA Gronk variations from Joe Brady and the 2025 Bills, as well as a 10-clip cutup of the rest. These breakdowns are taken from Game Planning with the 2025 Buffalo Bills.

If you are looking for a a small primer on the PA Gronk concept, check out this older article:

On their first snap of the game in week 14, the Bills call a PA Gronk concept off Trap play action. They motion from 3x1 to 2x2.

This is a play action concept designed to get the tight end open behind the boundary hook defender. The fast motion Rail route should pull the flat player out to widen the window.

The Bengals rotate the weak safety to get to a single high coverage. He carries the Rail route, and the hook player (W) bites on the pulling guard and run fake.

Chunk gain for Buffalo.

At 2Q 11:33 (week 10 2025), the Bills call a play action concept off of one of their favorite run plays, Counter Solid. I categorize this as part of the Pop or Gronk concept family.

Book Bundles

They set it up well, calling it from the same formation-motion they call Counter Solid. These examples can be seen throughout their first nine sections of the Bills game planning book.

The goal of the route from the boundary WR is to occupy the deep defender. The ideal coverage for this is cover 2 or cover 3.

The Dolphins play cover 2, and the weak hook player takes a couple of steps to defend Counter Solid going away.
