Fake jet motion away from the direction of Outside Zone creates a nice horizontal misdirection element to the play. Get the defense bumping one way, run back the other way.
With fake jet, the offensive line will most often push their combinations to the first defender outside the box. With the motion, he will typically bump into the box and needs to be accounted for. This is often the nickel. Putting the nickel at the point of attack, inside the box, is a win for the offense.
Why it Worked: The first week 16 clip shows the play hitting against a 4-down 2 high defense. With the nickel apex-ing, the slot receiver does not have leverage to block him. Using the fake jet motion brings him into the box, with the offensive line pushing to him now. The ball cuts behind the BST for a nice gain.
Why it Didn’t Work: In week 9, the Mike triggers quickly an the BSG is unable to get good position on him.
