A few well designed/sequenced plays I wan to highlight from Kubiak and the Raiders.
Klint Kubiak opens up his Raiders tenure with a pre season rep of Inside Zone Strong - Slice. He adds fake jet action towards the run, and utilizes a back side Arrow tag from the in-line tight end.
This specific variation of Inside Zone uses the fake jet motion on one side and the Arrow on the other to control secondary force defenders from rotation. It allows the offensive line (and the FSTE/Slicer) to lock on the box defenders. 7 for 7 on the interior.
The Arrow has the added benefit of widening the EMOL for the slicer.
A few plays later, the Raiders call a 21 personnel variation of Inside Zone Weak - Slice. They use fast motion to create a slot look, using the PSWR to block the safety with the motion man for the cornerback.
Split flow with a BSTE. Great angles against a 5-down front.
In the clip, the first combo works out to the safety. Let’s chalk this up to some pre season cobwebs.
Later in the game, Kubiak calls a PA Deep Curl variation off the same run action in the previous example. The goal is to get the Curl behind the boundary hook player. Flush the flat player out with the fast motion Rail, replace the hook player with the checkdown if he recovers well.
Fantastic footwork and timing from Mendoza. Also throwing into the window, allowing the receiver to adjust downfield after his break.
