• On July 20, the White House announced additional 50% tariffs on a range of Canadian imports under Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930. The measures cover products including wine, dairy, automobiles, hockey sticks, and cement, and are scheduled to take effect in 30 days. Energy products, potash, fish, and certain critical minerals are excluded.

  Alberta Premier’s Position on Tariffs

  

  Alberta Premier Danielle Smith stated that her government does not plan to respond to the U.S. tariff measures with retaliatory actions such as a ban on American alcohol. On her Saturday radio show, she said Canada should remain calm and pursue diplomacy.
