Good Friday morning!
A devastating air crash to report, questions about election safeguards, campaign-finance reports are revealing who was really behind some of those nasty primary attacks, and the Alaska State Fair is starting, so the rainy weather can’t be far behind. Today is a travel day for me, so I’ll be working from airports a lot.

Breaking: Remote plane crash in Western Alaska kills eight. → Read more.
Crash notes: US Air Force owns the runway, which is closed to public. Elevation 226 ft. 3945-foot runway. We are hearing the Security Aviation flight had onboard two pilots, one Air Force, two Brice (Calista) employees, one Yukon Fire and two US Army Corps of Engineers employees. They overshot and smashed into the mountain. On this approach, there is no successful go-around possible if you miss the approach point, we’re told by pilots. Weather appears to have been a big factor.

⚡ Energy secretary heads north: US Energy Secretary Chris Wright will keynote the Alaska Oil & Gas Association’s 10th Annual Conference on Thursday, Aug. 27, in Anchorage. Wright is expected to lay out the Trump administration’s efforts to unleash Alaska’s energy resources, strengthen U.S. energy security and advance its “American energy dominance” agenda. With Alaska’s gasline debate still simmering and Cook Inlet energy concerns front and center, his timing couldn’t be better.
⚖️ RCV repeal fight heads to Alaska Supreme Court: The battle over the ballot language for the Repeal Now initiative gets its day before the Alaska Supreme Court next week. Oral arguments are scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 1:30 pm Alaskans can watch the proceedings live on Gavel Alaska’s Supreme Court stream.
Is Rep. DeLena Johnson having secret meetings with Speaker Bryce Edgmon and the Democrats? This is what I am hearing, also that she opposes the gasline, and is trying to get the speakership next year. She is the reason why the minority is not going to Juneau. Is Rep. Elexie Moore in on this? This is what I am also hearing. I’ll be looking into it.
