TVE24h Interview: Democrats who Split from Party to End the Shutdown

📺I spoke with TVE 24h about the Democrats who split from the party to vote to end the shutdown without getting the one concession the party sought from the start: an extension of the healthcare tax credits that would allow millions of Americans to keep their health insurance coverage. This group traded the party’s leverage for guaranteed jobs and backpay for federal workers and a promise to vote on healthcare tax credits in mid-December. We know how that will go. It’s gut wrenching to see families lose food assistance and frustrating to have flights cancelled as the country heads towards Thanksgiving. It doesn’t help that Chuck Schumer had a weak strategy, asking for just a one-year extension. Just enough time to save voters from the Trump-inflicted pain ahead of next year’s midterm elections and their expiration soon after. Should Democrats let voters see, touch and feel the Trump inflicted pain or fight to alleviate it? Unfortunately, they didn’t do either and I agree that Schumer needs to go.
