the growing heart of patience

Nothing creates a pressure to change like pain. But no matter how much it hurts, things don’t always change as quickly as I’d like them to. Sometimes I feel stuck, surrounded by situations that sting but don’t seem to budge -no matter how hard I’ve tried to force them to move. While there are situations that can be easily fixed, the ones that ache the deepest often take the longest, which calls me into patience -something I haven’t always had in abundance.

It makes sense: enduring pain during the slow trudge of transformation is not a walk in the park -it’s hard to hurt.

And yet, when I’ve tried to force things to change more quickly than they would naturally, my efforts have backfired:

breaking what won’t bend, drowning what won’t swim.

So, everyday I pray for patience -and the endurance that it demands:

May my heart fill with the grace of a gardener who tenderly transplants their fruits and flowers, even when they’re hurt and hungry.

May our growing hearts be held gently.

(with all the nature-nerdy fun-facts about transplanting):

Growing Gently: Song & Story

The patience of peace is not something that I pray for passively: I cultivate it purposefully, everyday, through my nerdy art. As I grow love for our nature through songs, stories, poems and pictures, I generate the positivity that keeps me going as I patiently and diligently heal the roots of peace within and around me. Creative reflection is the power-source of my heart, and you’re invited to join me.
