It’s been just two days since Charlie Kirk was assassinated, and the Left wasted no time in showing its true colors. The reels and posts of progressives cheering and celebrating the patent murder of a right-wing pro-free-speech advocate have been dissected and denounced by right-wing influencers in a stentorian eruption of anger. The mainstream media (relieved that the awkward conversation about Iryna Zarutzka’s equally cold-blooded murder has been eclipsed - for now) have piled on with their own dissimulation about Charlie: Charlie the homophobe, Charlie the racist, Charlie killed by one of his own. While some of the more prominent Leftist voices are being reprimanded for their sanguine schadenfreude, many on the Left still feel this is an actual victory for “their side.” It is not, and many of the reasons it is not will surprise you.
On X you’ll see the the Right expose Leftist callow- and callous-ness where the 24 hour news-cycle used to cover this outrage. You’d be forgiven for thinking that we are alone with our anger and rage in the war against this dehumanizing enemy. But you’d be wrong. Something else is happened off X (and the other echo-chamber BlueSky). A normie revolt is brewing against the Left among the least likely participants in the political arena.

If you’re like me you probably think that the Left either celebrates murder or merely issues pro forma lip service while latently agreeing with their more extreme co-partisans… and that’s more true than ever. But what we haven’t taken into account - what we NEED to take into account - is an army of centrists or apolitical “normies” who are finally waking up to what we’ve known all along: the Left is the unreasoning side of extremists.

The day after Kirk’s assassination my wife texted me. She doesn’t follow politics particularly closely, and uses different social media than me. So I was in for a bit of a shock when she started telling and showing me what was going on over at TikTok. Her timeline was being flooded - not by a chorus-line of Liberal dances macabres over Charlie’s murder - but by the opposite. Watch this:

Instead of the usual deluge of user confessions and fake word-of-mouth product endorsements it was videos of people - especially people of color - denouncing progressives, liberals and, wait for it, the Democrats for just about every crime of intolerance under the Sun. Initially I was extremely skeptical, after all TikTok is controlled by the Chinese Communist Party. Anything appearing therein must be viewed as propaganda in favor thereof. However after seeing many such videos I’m now convinced that users have gone off the deep end and shattered the TikTok algorithm (my wife purposely refrains from “liking” anything on her explorer page to avoid the curse of the algorithm’s filters).

Just think about it: TikTok’s (aka. the CCP’s) part in all this - if anything - should be to foment escalation and civil conflict. Yet reels are popping up denouncing Kirk’s assassination (okay, fine), denouncing the intolerance at hearing others’ opinions (that’s better), and denouncing the Left and the Democrats for normalizing this (FINALLY!).

Maybe the CCP is playing some advanced 5D, underwater, chess game here but I really don’t think so. The mood is too volatile for clever gambits to work. Besides it’s an easy play right now to simply let the algorithm enrage the masses and drive strife. Moreover, my wife’s timeline (or whatever it’s called on TikTok) is hardly a bastion of political posturing - so this isn’t just selection bias. Sasha Stone has just made a similar observation.

What’s even more incredible is that these voices coming out against the display of Leftist political violence represent the very constituencies that the Democrats consider their base. What’s amazing to me isn’t that a handful of influencers who “look like” left-leaning pols are speaking out against Charlie’s assassination… it’s that ANY of them are. Clearly our political compasses have been so warped by the echo-chamber that we’re failing to notice as True North starts shifting back to its original position. The Overton Window has stopped moving and momentum has shifted back.

Normies, apoliticals, centrists and moderates are disgusted, angered and horrified. The uncensored unaliving of Kirk, hemorrhaging blood while simply attempting to engage in heated debate, has outraged an unexpected group of people in an unexpected direction. What seems to be outraging them most is the realization (yes, they are confessing to “just waking up” about this) that the Left and their Democratic Party sponsors stand for the proposition that disagreement will met with murder. Meanwhile the attempts to smear Charlie as a White Supremacist, homophobe, etc have all been instantly debunked simply by showing him do what he did best: engaging people in debate!

Now, a cynic might counter with any number of blackpills, not the least of which would be “containment”. Maybe TikTok’s evil CCP masters are simply stroking their Fu-Manchu mustaches and showing America’s less-political social media users this side of the reaction, to make the Left appear more moderate than it is. And if you’re on the hard right, dug in onX like a tick, that might make you feel validated. But to anyone else, especially the apolitical, that is manifestly not the reaction that will be elicited. Instead, for what I believe might be the first time, such users are seeing influencers use their clout to rebel against the dominant means of forming opinion.

Where before they were saturated with blue-haired they/thems waxing hysteric over dead-naming or fat-shaming, they’re now injecting an aural antidote directly into their brains. They’re seeing representatives of “oppressed” communities now talking like they’re NOT oppressed… and they’re pissed… pissed that discourse has been allowed to gravitate so languidly to the Left’s orbit that disagreement is now justification for murder. Moreover the posters making these videos are doing so against the prevailing norms of TikTok and with great risk to their own clout/reputation. They will lose followers, and they don’t care.

So, feel free to keep blackpilling, feel free to keep the exposing Leftist ghouls for celebrating murder, and feel free to pressure the Trump Administration to bring the full force of the law down on the perpetrating entities (Antifa, NGOs, universities) - I know I will be. But after you watch these videos you cannot say we are alone here. Even if you feel your worldview is sufficiently different from those posting these videos, you can’t claim that the Turning Point, that Charlie’s murder has instigated, will be undertaken by the Right alone. It will truly be a populist revolt.
