Intelligence Assessment: CIA’s Covert Alliance and Tehran’s Counteroffensive

The evolving confrontation between Kurdish militias backed, directly or indirectly, by the United States and Iran’s expanding network of militant proxies is reaching a critical juncture. With Kurdish forces across Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Turkey numbering over 300,000 fighters, they represent a formidable ground component in Washington’s covert strategy to contain Tehran. Iran, however, is accelerating preparations to counter this plan by tightening control over its Kurdish population, reinforcing border defenses, and mobilizing its regional Shia militias, specifically Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, the Fatemiyoun Brigade of Afghan Shia fighters, the Zainabiyoun Brigade from Pakistan, and the Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd al-Shaabi) in Iraq. The stage is set for a proxy war that could redefine the balance of power across the Middle East.
