Executive Assessment:
Classified intelligence reveals that the Taliban’s General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI) has installed biometric identification systems at major border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan, including Torkham in Nangarhar, Spin Boldak in Kandahar, and smaller posts such as Dand Patan in Paktia, Paktika, Kunar, and Bahramcha in Helmand. The purpose of these installations is to identify and restrict the movement of former military and intelligence personnel of the dissolved Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, preventing their travel to Pakistan and monitoring their activities.
