The first novel of a thrilling new romantasy duology, Shadow and Bone meets From Blood and Ash—BLOOD BENEATH THE SNOW by debut author Alexandra Kennington is out today.
I was lucky enough to read an arc of this thrilling book and I can't express enough how much I loved it. It has all the tensions and high-stakes drama with a swoon worthy enemies-to-lovers-to ??? Not only was it a fantastic book, but Alex is my agent-sister (we're both represented by the same agent) and I couldn't be more proud nor excited for both of them!
Perfect for fans of enemies-to-lovers romantasy and readers of Sarah J. Maas, BLOOD BENEATH THE SNOW is a heart-pounding story about a rebellious princess who must compete to the death against her siblings for the crown to ensure justice. At the same time, she must grapple with the complicated feelings she grows for her country's most powerful enemy.
Synopsis
Revna knows what it’s like to be hated. As the only member of the royal family without magic, she is seen as a disgrace by Bhorglid, a kingdom that values power above all else. Thankfully she has found a family with other outcasts, who will stop at nothing to give a voice to the powerless. But when her two closest friends’ lives are put in danger at the hands of her father, she is determined to save them by any means necessary. Revna decides to throw herself into the kingdom’s most brutal tradition against her siblings: The Bloodshed Trials—a battle to the death for the throne. Revna is at a severe disadvantage but prepared to give her life to save those who matter most.
Just as Revna commits to competing—much to her father’s ire— she is kidnapped by the Hellbringer, a soul-rending general from her kingdom’s fiercest enemies. Mysterious and terrifying, the Hellbringer hides behind a mask and can kill with the flick of his wrist.
But the more time Revna spends with him, the more she begins to wonder if there may be some humanity left—especially when she gets a glimpse behind the mask. And as much as she wants to ignore the attraction she feels towards the Hellbringer, it becomes impossible as he begins to train her for The Bloodshed Trials. What she learns too late is that Bhorglid’s enemy wants her on the throne for their own furtive reasons.

For those of you who follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my announcement over he weekend that we welcomed a new addition to the family, a new co-co-author and little brother to Yondu, AMOS! We already love him (despite the lack of sleep he's giving us), and he's settling in nicely.
I'm hard at work on revisions for another YA Fantasy story of mine, a Count of Monte Cristo revenge tale. I need to clean up quite a bit of the prose as I've learned and grown as a writer since I last touched this manuscript, but it's a world and characters I love and I'm excited to keep at it.
I now have three books out on submission, with multiple editors still considering each one. The publishing process is LONG and filled with a lot of no’s, but I'm confident the right yes is coming soon.
A script of mine is also going through a few revisions just to clean it up before a competition happening this April where it will be featured. This has been a fun task and one I've loved jumping into once again.
A recent post from author Brigid Kemmerer (below) has me thinking about voice and what makes good voice. Another follower recommended a few books/authors that have exceptional voice, many of which I've read before.
Below are just a few picks for must read voice-y books for Aspiring Authors that I personally have read!
I know there are many more, these are specific to the YA/NA Fantasy genre (as that's what I'm current working on). Please add your favs in the comments!!
I'm currently still hooked on Danielle L. Jensen's Bridge Kingdom series, just finishing The Inadequate Heir and loving it. My next read will be my book club read Metal Slinger by Rachel Schneider.
Thanks it for now, hope you are all doing well ❤️
Until next time,
AJ Eversley
