I’ve been battling with myself for years, trying to create content. And I’m still right in the middle of that battlefield!
Now that I look back, it was pure insanity.
Years of opportunities and potential – the kind I knew I could have had – are now gone. Just like that.
It’s not about knowledge or skills.
It’s not about not knowing what to write.
It’s not even about not having a plan.
It all comes down to one thing:
Your mind plays a sneaky, super-intelligent reverse-UNO trick on you every time you want to make the decision to commit.
Doesn’t matter what it is.
It could be committing to writing content. It could be building something. Growing a career. A relationship… Your mind knows exactly how to stop you from committing to things and reaching the potential you know – deep inside your heart of hearts – that you have.
And don’t ever make the mistake of trying to force yourself into commitment through willpower. You better believe your mind is so creative at coming up with unlimited excuses that it will outsmart you.
Willpower won’t work. This is a mental game. And there’s nothing I, or anyone else, can tell you to do to fix it.
This is a process YOU need to go through:
– Struggle
– Observe
– Learn the tricks
– Win over the struggle
And then fix it over time by becoming so self-aware of your mind’s tricks that it becomes irrelevant by itself.
You heard it right.
One of the most powerful tricks your mind uses to stop you from committing to something – and hence reaching your potential – is promising you even more potential!
– What if I take this job offer, and a better one comes up next week?
– What if I make travel-related content, but later I want to change my niche to politics?
– What if I commit to this guy, and later I find a better guy?
The truth is committing to one thing means saying no to all the other things.
In order to reach your true potential, you must learn to sacrifice “other” and “better” potentials.
After all, that’s not even a real sacrifice.
That’s a fake fantasy. A hopium of a “better” thing in the future that doesn’t exist.
You are staying in the state of inaction because of a fantasy of something better in the future.
Who said things should be better in the first place?
Who gave you the idea that the other “thing” will be better than the current experience you have?
So, the first and most important thing is to give up the idea and sacrifice all that “other” potential.
It truly doesn’t matter what it is. Big or small, commit to something.
– Write a LinkedIn post every day
– Go for a 30-minute daily walk
– Smile to a stranger each day
Don’t commit in order to achieve success or hit a big goal. Not every action should lead to a tangible outcome. (Although, if you do it consistently, it will eventually lead to a good outcome for you).
Commit just so you can teach your mind that you can commit!
It’s literally a game. Either you take control of your mind, or it controls your life.
The game begins here.
It’s not going to be easy, but the first rule of any game is that there is a winner and a loser.
Every time you want to make a decision, or commit to something and grow, your mind is playing a dirty super-intelligent game with you to stop you from reaching your potential.
Why?
Figuring the “why” out is your job, not mine.
You need to observe it and realize why it’s doing that. You need to become alert and obsessed. Every single time your mind wants to prevent you from making a decision, you need to:
– Sit down in silence
– Immediately start observing and analyzing your thoughts and feelings
– Become aware that it wants to trick you
– Learn its trick
– And become aware of its patterns
By doing that, over time, you will make it completely irrelevant and neutralized.
So that it can’t stop you the next time. Those tricks will not work on you anymore because you already fixed them by becoming aware of them.
If you want to reach your true potential, stop waiting for the perfect moment or the “better” opportunity. Commit now, sacrifice the illusion of a better future, and start making real progress today.
