Pros and cons lists don’t work. You already know both columns, which is why you’re stuck. Nothing in the exercise weighs the items, nothing checks whether the option list is even complete, and at the end you have a tidier version of the same uncertainty. Which is why almost everybody who makes one then does what they were going to do anyway.
This skill attacks the problem in three places instead. It breaks the framing, because most decisions arrive as a binary that isn’t one and the binary hides four or five other options. It turns each option into claims that could turn out false, marked for whether you could check them before the deadline, which is where decisions actually get won. And it writes the story of the failure twelve months out, in the past tense, for the leading option and the runner-up both.
The most common useful outcome is not a recommendation. It’s stop the process, go and make two phone calls, come back on Thursday. People routinely agonise for a month over something one conversation would settle.
