Gab AI Adds More AI Models

After kicking the wheels for a while, Gab AI has become one of my favorite AI tools. Their base model Arya works quite well for a variety of writing and editing tasks. Their image generation is also quite good. The desktop interface is fairly streamlined and uncluttered.

Now, Gab AI is adding a few “mainstream” AI models to their toolkit: Claude, ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Perplexity. While it’s slightly counterintuitive, these models are now on the “Characters” page.

I had not heard of DeepSeek before, and I was eager to try it. From the name, I assume DeepSeek might do a deeper search for results. But for some reason DeepSeek R1 has not worked for me yet. Fortunately, DeepSeek V3 works great as does Perplexity, which also claims to do deep searches to inform AI outputs.

Side note: Perplexity is actually somewhat disappointing to me. I have tried it to do research for academic papers and it has come up with quite a few dead links. Paper-specific AI tools like Afforai and Paperguide work a lot better for this. Mainly, my use of Perplexity right now consists of queries like, “please format this citation in APA.”

Given that Gab AI’s main model Arya works quite well, and it’s not “censored,” I think the main reason to use the other models would be for queries that require a greater context window or need online searches.

I’m glad Gab AI is expanding. Hopefully, they’ll get enough subscriptions to support multimedia AI generation in the future, such as text to speech and video.
