OpenAI updated ChatGPT today, with changes on both the paid and free sides.
On the paid side, the Chat version of GPT-5.6 Sol used by Plus and Pro users has been retuned, and a new slider has been added to control the “level of thinking.”
On the free side, the default model has been switched to GPT-5.6 Luna. Text conversations are no longer subject to quantity limits, and a Think button has been added for questions that require more reasoning.
A Sol retuning that only takes effect in the chat scenario
The updated Sol in this release comes with a limitation: it is only available in ChatGPT’s Chat experience. The Sol versions powering Work and Codex remain unchanged. In other words, this is a targeted retuning specifically for everyday conversation.
