If I had one, this is how I would decorate it.

Conventional online wisdom says that your powder room is where you can “show off your personality.” I feel pretty strongly that your whole house should really feel like you, but I do agree that the powder room is a place that is typically small and distinct enough that you can really go a little wild with it.

Earlier this week I wrote about my own powder room update, and I shared a few wallpaper options. One of them I really love and couldn’t stop thinking about, but it just wouldn’t fit with my powder room in my house. So today I’m sharing what I often do for fun when I find something cool that I can’t use myself: I make up an imaginary room. Sometimes I make a Pinterest board, sometimes I make a collage, but often it’s just rattling around in my own head. So anyway, here’s my imaginary powder room that I’d put in a pool house, if I had one.

For starters, I’d have the floor be darkish terracotta tiles and clad the walls in teak panels. The color of the tile and the color of the wall would be close, but not perfectly matching, and the different textures would play nicely off each other. Keeping the walls and floor both a warm, brownish-red would feel serene, and it would draw your eye up to the ceiling which would be:

Swimmers, Blue

This awesome swimmers wallpaper. I’d have the installer trim the pattern so it’s only the people swimming, and when you looked up you’d kind of feel like you were under a pool.

That’d be fun, right? Subscribe to see all the other things I’d do with this imaginary room, a collage of it all together and a link to where I’m keeping all my design recommendations these days.
