Another month gone by!? I’ve been busy, trying to catch up with my work, doing some short comics as well as some children’s books illustrations. I always work best when I have at least couple of projects going on at once, so that I can jump from one to another if I feel stuck or are waiting for feedback from a publisher. I do have to be careful that I’m not piling up too much though. Here’s hoping I can focus a bit better on smaller amount of projects this month!
Here’s a panel from a comic I just finished for our collective’s anthology. We’re working on getting it done for the Copenhagen Comics festival in May. It’s going to be printed in risograph, which I’ve never really done, so it’s been interesting. I had to think of the colouring a bit different way than I I’m used to. But it’s fun, and I’ve already learned so much! The theme of the anthology is going to be sci-fi, which was also a bit difficult, when I feel like our time now days is more sci-fi than anything I could ever come up with.
At my Library webcomic, I’m talking about the importance of quietness in the libraries. What do you think, should we keep libraries quiet or should there be more space for talking and hanging out? Read more at SHH! Quiet in the Library -post.
Do you know this painting of Alexandre Séon from 1890?
It’s called Le Désespoir de la chimère, or The Despair of the Sphinx, and I saw it in a symbolism exhibition at the Ordrupgaard museum in Charlottenlund. In it the chimera is crying, abandoned on a cliff. As Séon was a symbolist, this painting has a lot to read in to. The Chimera can be seen to represent the ideal (maybe even inspiration?) and is now mourning the artists who have left it behind. To be honest, I think it also looks pretty pissed off.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about this Chimera a lot.
