The Woman Behind the Words
10 Things I Love & 10 Things I Absolutely Don’t
(From a Curly, Complicated & Unfiltered Author)
Hi… A. Hartdegen here.
Indie author of 4 books dropping May 25th
(yes… I said FOUR—don’t ask me how I survived)
Fighting the Past for My Future
I Tried to Tell You
To My Daughter: A Book of Poetry
Chunk’s Autism Journey
My life goals?
Either become a New York Times Best Seller…
or win the lottery.
I know the odds are against me…
but somebody in the family has to break generational struggles, right?
10 Things I Love
(in no particular order)
1. Learning new things
Yeah, I know… boring. Yawn.
But somehow I always end up down random rabbit holes, deep diving into things I didn’t even know I cared about.
2. Watching YouTube videos on how to build a house
Foundation to roof trusses.
If I had the tools… and a man who knows how to swing a hammer…
we NEED to build a house together.
Use my brain and his muscles
We got this, champ!
3. The idea of a homestead life
20+ acres. A farmhouse.
Writing books. Peace.
Filming it all like one of those
“we built our life from scratch” YouTube channels.
4. Nature (PNW life)
Mountains, lakes, rivers.
If you live here and don’t explore…
I have questions.
5. Road trips & boating
Give me open space over crowds ANY day.
6. Silence
Real silence.
Where you can hear your own thoughts.
That’s where the creativity lives.
7. A huge garden dream
Vegetables. Herbs. Peaceful mornings.
8. An avocado tree
Until I found out it takes YEARS to grow.
But guess what? You can order a 2-year-old tree online.
Don’t play with me!
9. The idea of a greenhouse
Because once I commit to the garden…
I’m going ALL the way.
10. Music
(currently 80s pop & 90s dance vibes)
Somehow I ended up here…
and I’m not leaving.
10 Things I Don’t Like (at all)
1. Slimy seafood
Nothing raw. Nothing slimy. Nothing questionable.
Absolutely not.
2. Big crowds
Too many people at once?
I’m already ready to go home.
3. Fake people
I can feel it immediately.
I don’t even entertain it.
4. Smear campaigns / messy energy
Protect your peace at all costs.
5. Lack of compassion
Being kind is literally free.
6. Pho
I’ve tried… I really tried.
It’s just not happening. I said what I said.
7. Chaos
I’ve had enough of it.
I’m choosing peace now.
8. Drugs / that lifestyle
I’m sober. I’ll have an occasional drink, but that life?
Not for me.
9. Being forced to socialize
I’ll talk to people I like…
But only if I’m comfortable. Otherwise I’m quiet and observing.
10. Waiting YEARS for things
(like avocados)
If there’s a shortcut, I’m finding it!!!
I’m flexible on future plans…
I’ve never left the country, but if life ever told me to pack up and go live in Costa Rica or Nicaragua in a quiet eco village…
I wouldn’t argue.
But honestly?
I’d be just as happy building a quiet life somewhere…
writing, growing food, and finally having peace.
Now that my books are finished…
it’s time to get back to my fitness journey
and start building the life I’ve been dreaming about.
One step at a time.
From one curly, complicated, unfiltered writer…
Just figuring it out as I go.
