I feel the need to put this here, because it honestly never dawned on me that I might need to say it out loud.
My name is Unfiltered for a reason.
I am an American woman. And with that comes a certain kind of conditioning, privilege, freedom, and perspective. I was raised in a society where people may argue, disagree, roll their eyes, mind their business, or debate everything under the sun, but at the heart of it, most of us understand one basic thing:
People are allowed to exist.
They are allowed to love who they love.
They are allowed to become who they become.
They are allowed to change, grow, outgrow, begin again, and live a life that does not require my permission.
I don’t have to understand every person to respect their humanity. I don’t have to live the way someone else lives to believe they deserve dignity. I don’t have to share every belief to sit beside someone in peace.
Recently, I was reminded that not everyone in the world is shaped by the same social norms, the same freedoms, or the same ideas of acceptance. That may sound obvious, but sometimes writing spaces make the world feel smaller than it really is. We gather here because we love words. We want connection. We want conversation. We want to be understood.
But love for writing does not mean we all see humanity the same way.
It never occurred to me that someone might choose where to raise children based on whether that country is too accepting of LGBTQ community. That genuinely stopped me in my tracks. Not because I think everyone has to think exactly like me, but because I realized how deeply Americanized my own view of freedom is.
To me, who someone loves is not my business. How someone identifies is not my burden. Whether someone lives differently than I do does not threaten my existence.
People are people.
Every country has beauty. Every culture has wisdom. Every religion has sincere hearts. And every place also has its shadows, its cruelty, its secrets, and its contradictions. There is no perfect society. There are only humans, doing human things, sometimes beautifully and sometimes terribly.
I think that is why I care so much about allowing people to show up as who they are today. Not just who they were ten years ago or twenty years ago. Not to cancel them and dismiss the growth they worked hard for. Not just what they survived. Not just what someone else decided they should be.
Life changes people.
Pain changes people.
Love changes people.
TIME CHANGES PEOPLE.
And sometimes, the most honest thing we can admit is that we can respect someone and still realize we are too different to walk closely beside them.
So I say this with love and kindness, without a single drop of anger.
I believe in freedom.
I believe in dignity.
I believe in letting people exist without shame.
I believe growth matters.
I believe humanity is bigger than our comfort zones.
And I believe writing can connect us.
But values still tell us where we belong.

And maybe that is the lesson in all of this:

We do not have to agree on everything to share this world.

We do not have to understand someone’s life to honor their right to live it.

And we do not have to make another human being smaller just to make our own beliefs feel bigger.

There is room here for all of us.

Let people love.

Let people grow.

Let people change.

Let people become.

Let people exist.

Just Allow it.

Because at the end of every argument, every belief system, every border, every culture, and every difference

there is still a human being standing on the other side.
