Happy July! What an eventful month I have coming up. First of all, celebrating 250 years of America this 4th of July will be so exciting. There is really nothing like the 4th of July when you live in a beach town. We always have a great group of friends come in town for this holiday - one of my favorite weekends of the year! We typically set up chairs on the beach around 7 AM and park ourselves in front of the water the entire day.
There is nothing so fun as playing in the ocean with your family and friends. All the people you love best are there, and it feels like childhood again. Once we make it home for that perfect post-beach shower, we throw on big t-shirts, eat dinner, and head back to the beach for fireworks. I love where I live, and I think it is such a gift that my friends do too. It’s been amazing starting a tradition with them coming to visit us in the summer. The week before makes me giddy - cleaning the house, picking up extra fun snacks, laying out the beach chairs, and thinking of all of the fun we will get into.
The rest of July will fly by, I am sure. Sam and I have quite a bit of wedding planning to do with vendor meetings, tastings, and the like. On one hand, next spring feels so far away. On the other hand, half the people we talked to have already been booked, so it really does go to show you have to do the planning so far in advance. People did tell me this, but I didn’t expect it to be as extreme as we have found it to be so far!
At the end of the month, Audrey, Sarah, and I are moving out of our beloved summerhouse. Change is hard, especially change on a scale as big as this. It’s bittersweet because this is a good change for all of this, and I am so happy that the girls are so happy. It’s also hard to let go when living together has been so much fun and so deeply impactful. I will miss them beyond words. If you think of us in late July, send a sweet word. We will be so sad. The girls will also be moving out of Florida, so it’s hard not to dwell on the fact that we won’t be near each other anymore. UGH! Growing up still happens even in your 20s!
What have you got planned for this month?
happy list:
surf lessons
iced coffee after a morning run
new freckles
growing your hair out
bare nails
browsing the shelves at your public library
kind strangers
getting dressed up for a nice dinner
the pride and prejudice 2005 soundtrack
new music from popstars you love
sunrises on the beach
art that moves you
watching the world cup
gold jewelry in the summertime
babies on the beach
meeting for ice cream
going to the beach after work
friends coming to visit
getting hooked on a new book series
chips and guac as an afternoon snack
getting caught in a summer thunderstorm
sharing an old summer poem—
I was laying in the middle of the mattress
When you stood over me begging to be heard
The mid July air was too much for me to bear
I couldn’t pretend when the heat of the day
Was making sweat drip between my shoulder blades
That memory of you leaning over to open a window
Has been playing on loop in my brain for days
Even after you left and I had yet to move
I remember the selfish relief from the slight breeze
And no one looking for my attention
Happy July! May it be the most fun month of the year yet.
XO, Emma
