A song for all seasons

Dear Friends,

Stevie Nicks wrote "Landslide" at 27 and, 50 years later, made her singing debut at the iconic Met Gala in New York City on May 41.

Her perceptive lyrics foreshadowed uncertainty.

Can I sail through the changin’ ocean tides?

Can I handle the seasons of my life?

Also, self-awareness, resilience and resolve.

Well, I’ve been ‘fraid of changin’

‘Cause I’ve built my life around you

But time makes you bolder

Even children get older

And I’m gettin’ older, too

The lyrics acknowledge the emotional turmoil of change that the “seasons of life” bring, but also the salve of wisdom: the understanding that, while offspring fledge, time “makes you bolder.”

This song has popped up periodically across the landscape of my life, an anthem for the inevitable course corrections I’ve made while sailing through my “changing ocean tides.”
